If you’re someone who’s looking to the change of the calendar as motivation to travel or explore Chester County more, here’s a helpful list of things to do near Brandywine Valley.

Our list of things to do near Brandywine Valley features a variety of diverse options, but here is a small sampling: 

  • Gettysburg: If you want to learn more about the history of the Civil War or just want to see what you scare up on a ghost tour, Gettysburg could be a good option for you. Check out the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center and its 12-gallery museum. Gettysburg National Military Park offers self-guided or Licensed Battlefield Guides. You can take a tour by auto, bus, horseback and bicycle. There are also historic buildings to tour throughout town.  
  • Bucks County: Explore the Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve. Take the New Hope Railroad with either a steam or diesel locomotive for a 45-minute ride through Bucks County’s picturesque countryside. Walk along the towpath in Delaware Canal State Park. Or learn about a phantom hitchhiker and a historic ghost-filled inn.  
  •  Yuengling Brewery: Tour America’s oldest brewery located in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. You can go on a free tour where you’ll learn about the brewing process and even enjoy some free samples.   
  • Jim Thorpe: This historic town nestled in Lehigh Gorge in Carbon County features elegant Victorian mansions that are now home to unique shops, dining, bed & breakfasts, museums, galleries and popular entertainment venues. The Olympian, and the town’s namesake, Jim Thorpe is honored every year in May during the Jim Thorpe Birthday Celebration. In the fall, the Jim Thorpe Fall Foliage Festival features dazzling colors and festival weekends throughout October.  
  • Peddler’s Village: Fall and winter are some of the best times to explore Peddler’s Village which boasts spectacular fall foliage and things only get more festive as the holidays approach with millions of lights, gingerbread house displays, rides on a 1920 carousel and much more.    
  • Delaware Art Museum: Their collection contains approximately 12,000 works containing historical and contemporary American art, British Pre-Raphaelite art and American illustration, including work by John Sloan, Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Howard Pyle. 
  • Mt Cuba Center: A beautiful botanic garden committed to the conservation of native plants and their habitats. Take a virtual tour of their gardens, register for classes, or learn about their research and conservation. 
  • Linvilla Orchards: A 300-acre family farm dedicated to agriculture, entertainment and education. Take a hayride through their fields, pick your own fresh fruit and veggies, go for a ride on their passenger train and much more. 
  • Brandywine Museum of Art: Renowned for its holdings of the Wyeth family of artists, the museum features galleries dedicated to the work of N.C. Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth and Jamie Wyeth. It also features a collection of American art, with a special focus on nineteenth- and twentieth-century landscape paintings from the Brandywine Valley. Their collection also has Important portraits, still life paintings and notable American illustrations. 
  • Philadelphia: The closest major city to Coatesville, Philadelphia, offers world class museums, shows, entertainment, gardens, dining, shopping and major league sports making it a great option for a long weekend. If there’s something you want to do, you’re sure to find it in Philly.
